Robbers loot cash, gold from 3 expatriates' houses in Sylhet; 3 hurt

Sylhet, Dec 28 - Robbers looted gold ornaments and cash from three expatriates’ houses in Osmaninagar upazila  of the district on Thursday night injuring three people.

The injured were Anwara Begum, 60, her son Hossain Ahmed,22 of Latifpur village and Siraj Mia, 40, from Madhabpur village.

According to locals, a gang of 12 to 13 robbers broke into the house of Mizanur Rahman, an expatriate from Latifpur village and hit  Mizanur’s younger brother Hossain Ahmed on the head with an iron rod, injuring him severely and confined him to a room.

They then beat up their mother Anwara Begum and looted six ‘tolas’ of gold ornaments.

Another gang of 7 to 8 robbers entered the house of Mamun Ahmed, son of Abdur Rob from Madhabpur village and looted 16 ‘tolas’ of gold ornaments, cash and foreign currency worth Tk 1 lakh, including British pounds.

Robbery also occurred at the house of expatriate Ashiq Mia of Latifpur village in absence of the house inmates.

The gang looted 1 ‘tola’ of gold ornaments, Tk 1,100 in cash and other valuables.

Additional police super of Osmaninagar circle Ashrafuzzaman said police visited the spot.-UNB
