A woman was allegedly stabbed to death by her ex-husband in the capital's Hazaribagh area on Monday evening.

The victim, identified as Julekha, 45, was attacked while walking in the Jhauchar area at around 8pm. She was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared her dead at 8:45pm.

Shankha Banerjee, duty officer of Hazaribagh Police Station, said, “We received the information at around 9:30pm and immediately dispatched officers to the scene. We came to know that the woman died in the hospital.”

According to family members, Julekha had divorced her first husband, Nazrul Islam, two to three months ago and married another man named Kabir 15 days later. The couple lived in a rented house in the Jhauchar area.

Julekha’s brother-in-law, Shahidul Mollah, alleged that Nazrul attacked her out of anger over the divorce and subsequent remarriage, reports UNB.

The police are investigating the matter and trying to locate the suspect. Officers from Hazaribagh Police Station are currently at the scene to gather more information, the duty officer added.
