ICT Orders Four to Appear on April 9 in Abu Sayed Killing Case
The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) has directed the authorities to produce four individuals, including two former policemen, before the court on April 9 in connection with a case of crimes against humanity related to the killing of Abu Sayed in Rangpur during the July-August mass uprising.
The three-member tribunal, chaired by Justice Md Golam Mortuza Mozumder, issued the order after accepting a request from the prosecution, as confirmed by ICT Chief Prosecutor Muhammad Tajul Islam during a press briefing following the hearing.
The accused are former sub-inspector Amir Hossain, former constable Sujan Chandra Roy, former proctor of Begum Rokeya University Shariful Islam, and Imran Chowdhury Akash, the general secretary of the banned Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) varsity wing.
"Before Abu Sayed was killed, Shariful, along with BCL leaders and activists, launched an attack on university students and forcibly expelled them from the campus. At one point, two police officers shot and killed Abu Sayed from a very close range. Evidence gathered during the investigation suggests Shariful’s direct involvement in the incident. All four accused individuals have been arrested and are currently in custody. The tribunal has ordered them to be produced on April 9," said Prosecutor Tajul Islam.
In a separate development, the ICT chief prosecutor revealed that the tribunal’s investigation agency is expected to file its probe report in a crimes against humanity case against ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina by the end of this month.
The family of the martyred Abu Sayed had filed a complaint on January 13, naming 25 individuals in connection with his killing.
