Two individuals were killed and at least 10 others were injured in a violent confrontation between supporters of the Awami League (AL) and Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) over control of a remote area in Raipura upazila of Narsingdi on Friday morning.

The deceased have been identified as Amin, 23, son of Khorshed Mia, and Bashar, 35, son of Barek Haji, both believed to be supporters of the AL. Amin died from gunshot wounds, while Bashar was fatally injured by a spear and knife during the altercation.

According to police and local sources, tensions between two local political factions have been simmering for some time. The conflict traces back to a long-standing rivalry between Abdur Salam Mia, an AL leader and freedom fighter, and Samsu Member, the president of the BNP’s local unit in Chanpur union. The dispute intensified when Salam and his ally, Sohag, the joint secretary of the union AL, had previously forced Samsu and his followers to leave the area during the AL's time in power.

After a change in political control on August 5 of the previous year, Samsu and his supporters returned to the area, heightening tensions between the two groups. Early on Friday morning, around 5 a.m., Salam and his supporters attempted to enter the area, but they were met with resistance from Samsu’s faction, leading to a violent clash.

The violence left Amin dead from gunshot wounds and Bashar severely injured in the attack. The injured were rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment, while the bodies of the deceased were sent to the Narsingdi Sadar Hospital for autopsies.

In response to the incident, Narsingdi Superintendent of Police, Md. Abdul Hannan, confirmed that additional police forces were deployed to the area to prevent further violence and maintain order. Authorities are investigating the cause of the clash and have urged local residents to remain calm.
