Police arrested two men in connection with the gang rape and videotaping of a woman in Bagerhat.

The arrested individuals were identified as Sajeeb Das (19) and Likhon Das (20), both residents of Karori village in Rakhalgachi union under Bagerhat Sadar upazila. However, another accused, Sheikh Nazrul Islam (40), remains at large.

Md Mahmud-ul-Hasan, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Bagerhat Model Police Station, said that the victim filed a case on Friday afternoon, naming three individuals and an unidentified suspect.

“Following the complaint, we conducted a drive on Friday afternoon and arrested two of the named accused. Efforts are underway to arrest the remaining suspects,” he added.

According to the police, the 21-year-old victim, a mobile SIM card seller, was lured to the C&B market on Friday evening by a caller pretending to be a customer. She waited at the market, which is about 15 kilometers from Bagerhat city, until 8pm but no buyer showed up.

As she attempted to return home via a nearby paved bridge, she was ambushed by a group of assailants who forcefully took her under the bridge. There, they allegedly raped her while recording the crime on a mobile phone.

After they fled, the survivor sought refuge at a nearby relative's house and reported the incident. Upon receiving information, police rescued her that night and brought her to the station, reports UNB.

She has been sent to Bagerhat District 250-bed Hospital for medical examination, said the OC.
