Chief Coordinator (South) of the National Citizens' Party (NCP), Hasnat Abdullah was reportedly attacked in the Chandana area of Gazipur on Sunday evening.

The news first surfaced on social media through a Facebook post by NCP leader Abdul Hannan Masud, who wrote: “Hasnat Abdullah’s car has come under attack in Chandana, Gazipur. Anyone nearby, please come forward immediately.”

A similar post was made by Sarjis Alam, NCP’s Chief Coordinator (North), who claimed that 10 to 12 assailants carried out the assault. “The car windows were smashed, and Hasnat’s hand is bleeding. Those nearby, please protect him,” his post read.

When contacted around 7:30pm, Shahin Khan, Officer-in-Charge of Bason Police Station, said they were yet to confirm the incident or identify the exact location. “We are verifying the information,” he said.

Local sources reported that Hasnat Abdullah was last seen near the Islamic University of Technology (IUT), which falls under the jurisdiction of Gazipur’s Gacha Police Station.

Gazipur Metropolitan Police Deputy Commissioner (South) Nasir Uddin said he was en route to the area after receiving reports of the incident.
