A man hacked his wife to death following a family dispute in Bagaiya village of Bichanakandir in Gowainghat upazila on Saturday afternoon.

The deceased was identified as Rubena Begum, 27, a mother of three.

Her husband, Ali Ahmed, 35, was detained from the scene by police with the help of locals.

According to locals, Ali attacked his wife while she was lying in bed, killing her on the spot. He even hit himself after killing his wife.

Police said Ali Ahmed is believed to be mentally unstable and a drug addict, reports UNB.

Tariqul Islam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Gowainghat Police Station, said the couple had frequent arguments, which may have led to the incident.

Ali is currently in police custody at a hospital. Legal action is underway.
