Four hotels sealed for immoral activities in Sylhet

Police have sealed off four hotels in Sylhet city over allegations of immoral activities during a week-long operation.


According to a press release issued by Sylhet Metropolitan Police (SMP) on Friday (October 24), 12 men and women were arrested from these hotels on charges of engaging in immoral activities.

The sealed hotels are Sylhet Rest House, Bilash Residential Hotel, Grand Sawda Hotel, and Al Sadi Hotel, the SMP statement said.

During the same period, police recovered 250 pieces of yaba tablets, 587 bottles of foreign liquor, 200 grams of cannabis, and 102 liters of locally brewed alcohol.

In separate drives, police also seized a large quantity of smuggled goods, including 2,071 Indian sarees, 31 packets of Indian chocolates, 1,600 pieces of skincare cream, 168,000 Indian bidis, and 770 packs of foreign cigarettes, reports UNB. 

Over the past week, a total of more than 200 people have been arrested from different parts of the city, including 16 drug dealers, 10 listed snatchers, and 24 known thieves, police added.

Sylhet Metropolitan Police Additional Deputy Commissioner (North) and Media Officer Mohammad Saiful Islam confirmed the information.
