Old Dhaka shooting victim identified as ‘Mamun’: Police

Police have confirmed that the man shot dead in front of the National Medical Institute Hospital in Old Dhaka on Monday was Tarik Saif Mamun, widely known as a top underworld figure.

Mamun, 50, had previously operated alongside another notorious criminal, Sanjidul Islam Imon, with the duo maintaining dominance in Hazaribagh, Dhanmondi, Mohammadpur and Tejgaon, said Mallick Ahsan Uddin Sami, deputy police commissioner of Lalbagh division.

According to police and family sources, tensions had escalated between the two in recent months. Imon’s group had reportedly made several attempts to eliminate Mamun as part of a bid to expand control over local criminal networks.
