Trader set afire by muggers in Shariatpur dies at DMCH

A trader who was stabbed and set on fire by muggers in Damudya upazila of Shariatpur district on Wednesday died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) on Saturday.


Khokon Das, 55, who used to run a medicine shop at Keurbhanga Bazar, succumbed to his burn injuries while undergoing treatment at the DMCH, said police.

Officer-in-charge of Damudya Police Station Md Robiul Haque said when Khokon was returning home after closing his shop on the day, three to four muggers stopped him, attacked him with sharp weapons and robbed him of the cash he was carrying.

As he recognised the attackers they set him on fire by pouring petrol, he said.

He was admitted to the DMCH in a critical condition and succumbed to his injuries in the morning, reports UNB. 

A case has been filed against three people in connection with the attack.

No suspects have been arrested yet but efforts are ongoing, said the OC.
