A businessman was stabbed to death in the Dakshin Sahitya Palli area of Cox’s Bazar city after allegedly refusing to pay extortion.

The deceased was identified as Ganesh Pal, a resident of Dakshin Sahitya Palli.

Quoting locals, police said Ganesh Pal was working on a drain near his house on Saturday afternoon when a man named Jisan demanded extortion from him. When he refused to pay, Jisan and four other unidentified individuals attacked him, stabbing him in the left side of his chest before fleeing the scene.

Ganesh Pal was rescued in critical condition by his family members and local residents and taken to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital, where the doctor on duty declared him dead, reports UNB.

Somiuddin, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Cox’s Bazar Sadar Model Police Station, said the body has been kept in the hospital morgue and that efforts are underway to apprehend those involved.

Legal action is in process regarding the incident, he said.
