A member of the United People’s Democratic Front (UPDF) was reportedly shot dead by miscreants in Panchhari Upazila of Khagrachhari district on Saturday.

The deceased was identified as Apan Tripura, also known as Sangram, 28, a member of UPDF (Prosit Group). He was the son of the late Kiran Muni Tripura of the Maratila area in Panchhari.

UPDF alleged that 15–20 armed members of the JSS Santu Group were lurking in the Barakona area around 11:30 am, and Apan Tripura was shot at close range when he encountered them on his way to organizational work.

UPDF organizer Angya Marma called the incident cowardly and heinous and demanded legal action against the perpetrators, reports UNB.

Ferdous Wahid, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Panchhari Police Station, said the police recovered the body and sent it to Khagrachhari District Sadar Hospital for an autopsy.
