Patuakhali: Miscreants critically chopped and brutally beat a Jubo Dal leader in Kalapara, Patuakhali. The incident took place at around 10 pm on Sunday in Chungapasha village of Chakamiya Union of the upazila. Following the incident, locals rescued the injured Jubo Dal leader Bashar Khan (42) and sent him to Kalapara Hospital in a critical condition for treatment. The injured Jubo Dal leader Bashar is the Jubo Dal secretary of Ward No. 9 of Chakamiya Union and his father's name is late Kalu Khan.

According to local sources, Jubo Dal leader Bashar was returning home after Tarabih prayers on Sunday night. On the way, unknown terrorists hit him on the top of the head with a sharp weapon. As a result, he suffered serious injuries, including a fractured skull and bones. At that time, the terrorists severely injured him in various parts of his body and crushed his right leg below the knee with an iron rod. On hearing his screams, the locals rescued him and sent him to Kalapara for treatment.

The source further said that the terrorist attack on Jubo Dal leader Bashar took place due to internal party conflicts and political disputes. However, Bashar's wife Zayeda claimed that a few days ago, there was a dispute with locals Kawsar Mridha and Zakir Mridha over her husband's land.

Kalapara Hospital's attending doctor Dr. Mahbubur Rahman said that since the patient's condition was alarming, he was sent to Barisal for better treatment. He has a sharp weapon injury on the top of his head and a fractured bone in the lower part of his right leg.

Kalapara Police Station OC Md. Rabiul Islam said that he is aware of the matter. No one has filed a written complaint with the police station so far in this incident. He said that action will be taken according to the law if he receives a complaint. - Gofran Palash
