July Memorial Museum Opens to Public on August 6
The July Mass Uprising Memorial Museum will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman at 9:00am on Wednesday (5 August) and will be opened to the general public from Thursday (6 August).
After inaugurating the museum, the prime minister is scheduled to tour the entire facility.
The announcement was made by Culture Minister Nitai Roy Chowdhury at a press conference held at the Secretariat on Tuesday ahead of the inauguration ceremony.
The minister said any specific allegations of irregularities in the construction or management of the museum would be investigated thoroughly.
State Minister for Cultural Affairs Ali Newaz Mahmud Khayem said the inauguration forms part of the nationwide observance of July Mass Uprising Day. A cultural concert has also been organised at Suhrawardy Udyan on Wednesday afternoon to mark the occasion.
He added that the museum would continue to be enriched over time with additional exhibits and historical materials.
Cultural Affairs Adviser Dr Jahed Ur Rahman said the museum would remain open exclusively for members of the martyrs' families on the inauguration day. From 6 August, visitors will be able to enter the museum by purchasing tickets.
Entry fees have been fixed at Tk 50 for adults and Tk 25 for children.
According to the Ministry of Cultural Affairs, the inauguration ceremony will be attended by senior government officials, representatives of various ministries and divisions, diplomats, academics, intellectuals, cultural figures, political leaders, July uprising participants, members of martyrs' families, journalists and other distinguished guests.
The event will be chaired by Culture Minister Nitai Roy Chowdhury. Liberation War Affairs Minister Ahmed Azam Khan, State Minister for Cultural Affairs Ali Newaz Mahmud Khayem, and the Prime Minister's Adviser on Policy and Strategy, Information and Broadcasting and Cultural Affairs, Dr Jahed Ur Rahman, are also expected to attend as special guests.
The programme will conclude with a vote of thanks from the museum's Director General.
