Cyclone Michaung over Bay of Bengal

Cox’s Bazar, Dec 06 - Tourist ship operations on the Teknaf-Saint Martin's Island route in Cox's Bazaar have been suspended since Wednesday morning due to inclement weather triggered by the cyclonic storm Michaung.

Some tourists are stranded in Saint Martin's Island following the suspension of tourist ship operations, said Teknaf Upazila Nirbahi Officer Adnan Chowdhury.

The tiny Saint Martin's Island is an important tourist spot attracting visitors from home and abroad. A significant portion of tourists who choose Cox’s Bazar as the destination also make a short trip to and from the island. The trip suspension will remain in force until further notice.

It could not be known immediately how many tourists are stranded on the island.

According to AP, twelve people died in the downpour before Michaung made landfall along India's southeast coast on Tuesday. - UNB
