BWCCI founding president Selima Ahmad passes away
Selima Ahmad, founding president of the Bangladesh Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BWCCI) and a prominent woman entrepreneur, passed away in Bangkok on Sunday after a prolonged battle with cancer.
She was the wife of former FBCCI president and Chairman of Nitol-Niloy Group Abdul Matlub Ahmad.
According to BWCCI, Selima Ahmad breathed her last at a hospital in Bangkok. Her body is expected to be brought back to Bangladesh on Monday or Tuesday.
A pioneer in promoting women’s entrepreneurship in Bangladesh, Selima Ahmad played a key role in expanding opportunities for women in business and strengthening their participation in the country’s economic development.
Her death is being widely mourned across the business community, particularly among women entrepreneurs, many of whom benefited from her leadership and support.
Business leaders and associates described her passing as an irreparable loss to the country’s entrepreneurial landscape, recognising her lasting contribution to women’s empowerment and business leadership, reports UNB.
She had been undergoing long-term cancer treatment.
