Feni, 3 March -A 45-year-old woman died due to a wrong operation by a gynecologist at a Feni hospital, alleged family.
The deceased Parul Akter was a resident of Madhyam Chandipur village of Daganbhuiyan upazila of Feni.
The accused gynecologist is Dr. Mahbuba Khanam of Alchemy Hospital in Feni.
On Monday, the patient’s brother Amir Hossain filed a written complaint at the Feni Civil Surgeon’s office, holding Dr. Mahbuba and her medical team responsible for the alleged malpractice.
According to the complaint, victim Parul was admitted to the hospital for a hysterectomy. Dr. Mahbuba Khanam conducted the surgery on February 20.
However, two days after the operation, Parul’s condition deteriorated.
The gynecologist then informed the patient’s family that an internal organ had ruptured and advised them to transfer her to Cumilla Medical College Hospital.
She coordinated with Dr. Delwar Hossain of Cumilla Medical College and referred the patient there for further treatment.
Upon admission to the hospital, doctors found that the previous surgery had been performed incorrectly, causing damage to the patient’s intestines. As a result, fecal matter had spread throughout her body, leading to severe infection, according to the complaint.
Doctors informed the family that another surgery was necessary, but survival chances were slim. After undergoing the second operation on February 2, she succumbed, according to the complaint.
The brother accused Dr. Mahbuba and her team of prioritising financial gain over proper medical care, leading to his sister’s death.
He urged the Civil Surgeon’s office to conduct a thorough investigation and ensure justice.
Refuting the allegations, Dr. Mahbuba claimed that the surgery was successfully completed and that the patient was referred to Cumilla Hospital only after complications arose two days later.
Feni Civil Surgeon Dr. Shihab Uddin said that an investigation committee would be formed within two days, and necessary actions would be taken against those found responsible.BSS
