Dhaka, Oct 18 — A 12-year-old student, Mehjabin Akter, died after coming into contact with an electric wire around 5 pm on Saturday, while playing badminton in the yard of her house in Atibazar, Keraniganj.

Mehjabin was rescued in an unconscious state and rushed to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared her dead.

Mehjabin was the eldest daughter of Saudi expatriate Mahfuzur Rahman and a resident of Makka Housing under Keraniganj Model Police Station.

She was a fifth grade student at a local school.

Her maternal aunt, Bithi Akter, said, “While playing badminton, the shuttlecock got stuck in an electric wire. When Mehjabin tried to retrieve it, she was electrocuted and lost consciousness.”

Inspector Md. Faruk, in charge of the Dhaka Medical College Hospital police camp, confirmed that the body was kept in the emergency morgue.

“The matter has been reported to the relevant police station,” he added. - UNB
