Govt to ensure balanced development, cut inequality: Khosru

Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury today said the government is committed to ensuring balanced development by reducing economic, social and infrastructural disparities across regions. 


He said the government would prioritize appropriate economic development and industrialization in regions best suited for specific economic and industrial activities.

The finance minister made the remarks while presenting the national budget in Parliament today.

He added that, as part of region-based balanced development, developing Chattogram as the country's commercial capital is a strategic initiative of the current government. 

To establish Chattogram as a regional trade hub, the port will be modernized and expanded.

The minister also noted that Initiatives will be taken to develop agro-based industries in the northern region, prioritising agriculture-intensive districts, reports BSS.
