Govt working to restructure Old Dhaka

The first meeting of the parliamentary standing committee on the Ministry of Housing and Public Works discussed the matter at the Jatiya Sangsad here today.

The government will gradually work on the renovation and development of Dhaka to build it as a model city, said the meeting.

The meeting also discussed the lack of adequate playgrounds and parks for people in Dhaka city, saying that the government is working jointly with the Ministry of Youth and Sports in this regard.

Participating in the discussion, Housing and Public Works Minister Zakaria Taher said work is underway to set up rooftop solar panels covering nearly 3.50 lakh square feet across the country as part of the government's priority programmes.

To reduce difficulties related to abandoned or controversial plots, the committee also recommended taking legal initiatives and verifying the matters fairly to ensure the rights of those affected.

The meeting also emphasized recovering national resources from land grabbers. "The ministry is working to construct a land bank or land information warehouse aimed at bringing transparency to land management," according to the release.

The meeting also discussed introducing one-stop services to reduce delays in the approval of plans by the Rajdhani Unnayan Kartipakkha (RAJUK).

Chaired by Committee Chairman Rezaul Karim Badsha, the meeting was also attended, among others, by State Minister for Housing and Public Works Ahmed Sohel Manzur, Md Lutfozzaman Babar MP, Mosharraf Hossain MP, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Iqbal MP and Ferdousy Ahmed MP, reports BSS.
