Bangladeshi credit card overseas usage increases

A large number of Bangladeshis visit India every month for travelling and medical treatment.



The usage of credit cards by Bangladeshi nationals outside the country increased in December compared with that in the previous month.

According to a Bangladesh Bank report, credit card transactions by Bangladeshi nationals outside the country amounted to Tk 579 crore in December last. Of the amount, 54.49 percent was spent in India, USA, UAE and Thailand.

A large number of Bangladeshis visit India every month for travelling and medical treatment. In recent times, the travel of Bangladeshis to the country has increased significantly. That’s why the Bangladeshi credit cards are being used in India most.

Bangladeshis spent Tk 115.6 crore using their credit cards in the neighboring country in the last December, which was Tk 87 crore in November. Similarly, credit card transactions by Bangladeshi nationals in USA amounted to Tk 73.2 crore.

On the other hand, Bangladeshi nationals spend higher amount of money abroad through credit cards compared to the foreign nationals roaming inside Bangladesh.

Through credit cards, Bangladeshi nationals bought Tk 579 crore of products and services abroad in December last when foreigners spent Tk 184 crore in Bangladesh, according to a central bank report.
