Speaker of the National Parliament Hafiz Uddin Ahmad held talks with his Iranian counterpart Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf in Tehran on Friday, highlighting the longstanding friendship and growing cooperation between Bangladesh and Iran.
Ghalibaf warmly welcomed the Bangladeshi speaker and his delegation, who travelled to Iran to attend the state funeral of Iran’s late supreme leader, Ali Khamenei.
During the meeting, Hafiz expressed deep condolences over Khamenei’s death and conveyed solidarity with the government and people of Iran during the period of national mourning.
He also underscored the centuries-old friendship between Bangladesh and Iran, highlighting strong cultural ties and longstanding people-to-people relations.
The speaker praised Ghalibaf’s role in supporting the recent peace memorandum of understanding between Iran and the United States, expressing hope that the agreement would contribute to lasting peace, stability and prosperity in Iran and the wider region.
Hafiz reaffirmed Bangladesh’s support for the ongoing peace process and expressed hope that all parties would continue dialogue and diplomacy to resolve outstanding issues.
He also invited Ghalibaf to visit Bangladesh at a mutually convenient time.
The Bangladeshi delegation arrived in Tehran on Thursday to attend the state funeral and was received at the airport by Hamid Reza Haji Babaei.
