State Minister Seeks Stronger Bangladesh-IFRC Ties

State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam briefs media on Sunday

State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam on Sunday called for stronger collaboration between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) to advance climate resilience, with a special focus on women and children.

The call came during a farewell meeting with Alberto Bocanegra, Head of Delegation of the IFRC to Bangladesh, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

During the meeting, Bocanegra briefed the state minister on the IFRC's key humanitarian activities and achievements during his tenure, highlighting the organisation's work in disaster preparedness, climate resilience, healthcare and assistance for displaced populations.

He also expressed appreciation for the continued support and cooperation extended by the Government of Bangladesh throughout his assignment.

Shama Obaed congratulated Bocanegra on successfully completing his tenure and praised his leadership of the IFRC in Bangladesh.

She commended the IFRC's longstanding partnership with Bangladesh since the Liberation War and acknowledged its contributions to emergency response and humanitarian assistance.

The state minister also appreciated the organisation's continued support during floods, cyclones and other climate-induced disasters, as well as its humanitarian assistance for the Rohingya response.

Wishing Bocanegra success in his future assignments, Shama Obaed expressed confidence that the strong partnership between Bangladesh and the IFRC would continue to deepen under the leadership of his successor.
