Bangladesh, Malaysia Discuss LNG Support And Investment

Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said he discussed ways to strengthen Malaysia-Bangladesh relations, particularly in the energy and investment sectors, with Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman during a telephone conversation on Monday (28 July).

In a Facebook post following the call, Anwar said the two leaders discussed Bangladesh’s ongoing gas supply challenges and Malaysia’s possible support, including cooperation with Malaysian state energy company PETRONAS to supply liquefied natural gas (LNG) to meet the country’s immediate needs.

“During the telephone conversation with the Prime Minister of Bangladesh Tarique Rahman today, we touched on various issues related to efforts to strengthen Malaysia-Bangladesh relations, particularly in the energy and investment sectors for mutual benefit,” Anwar wrote.

The Malaysian prime minister said the discussion also covered economic cooperation, including the progress of investments involving Axiata and potential strategic collaboration with MMC Port.

He said such partnerships would help deepen economic relations between the two countries and create new opportunities for mutual growth.

“Malaysia will continue to be committed to strengthening the long-standing friendship with Bangladesh, based on a spirit of mutual respect, pragmatic cooperation, and a commitment to bring benefits to the people of both countries,” Anwar added.
