Bangladesh, Norway Eye Stronger Cooperation in Trade, Energy

Bangladesh and Norway on Thursday discussed ways to further strengthen bilateral cooperation in trade and investment, renewable energy, maritime affairs, fisheries, climate change, green transition, technology transfer and environmentally sound ship recycling.

Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening their bilateral and multilateral partnership and enhancing cooperation across a wide range of issues of mutual interest.

Norwegian Ambassador to Bangladesh Håkon Arald Gulbrandsen paid a courtesy call on State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humayun Kabir at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and discussed the issues.

The state minister expressed his deep condolences over the passing of King Harald V and extended warm felicitations to King Haakon VIII on his accession to the Norwegian throne, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

Kabir highlighted the importance of increased high-level exchanges to enhance the visibility and momentum of bilateral relations.

He particularly sought Norway’s support for expanding and accelerating investment in Bangladesh’s renewable energy sector.

The ambassador appreciated the government’s efforts toward democratic reforms and expressed Norway’s interest in working together on renewable energy initiatives.

He also appreciated Bangladesh’s generous efforts in hosting the Rohingyas and reaffirmed Norway’s commitment to working closely with Bangladesh in multilateral forums toward their safe, voluntary, dignified and sustainable repatriation to Myanmar.

Gulbrandsen congratulated Kabir on his assumption of office and expressed confidence that the longstanding and friendly relations between Bangladesh and Norway would continue to deepen.
