Bangladesh, UN Pledge Continued Cooperation on Global Issues

Bangladesh and the United Nations have pledged to continue close cooperation and work together to address common global challenges.

The commitment came at a meeting between Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and UN Secretary-General António Guterres at the UN Headquarters in New York on Thursday, on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.

The meeting focused on Bangladesh-UN cooperation, major global and regional issues, and matters of mutual interest.

The two leaders exchanged views on Bangladesh’s development, the impacts of climate change, efforts to find a sustainable solution to the Rohingya crisis, and Bangladesh’s continued contributions to UN peace, security and development efforts.

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman highlighted the importance of UN cooperation and support on issues related to Bangladesh’s priorities and national interests.

He also reiterated Bangladesh’s commitment to multilateralism, international cooperation, peace and sustainable development.

Guterres stressed the importance of further strengthening the long-standing partnership between Bangladesh and the United Nations.

The meeting came during the high-level week of the 81st UN General Assembly, which has focused on strengthening international cooperation to address interconnected global challenges.
