US Ambassador Peter Haas inaugurating education fair in Dhaka

The U.S. Embassy organized a university fair in partnership with EdPrograms to provide Bangladeshi students with access to information on the U.S. university admissions process.

Dhaka, January 31, 2023 — Today, U.S. Ambassador Peter Haas inaugurated the largest U.S. university fair in Bangladesh with prospective students and U.S. institutions. The U.S. Embassy, through its EducationUSA platform, hosted the fair in partnership with EdPrograms. More than 3,500 visitors from across the country participated in the event held at InterContinental Dhaka.

Ambassador Haas lauded the success of Bangladeshi students on U.S. campuses, “We’re thrilled by the increasing number of Bangladeshis who have chosen to study in the United States to improve their prospects and find their passion.

These students make valuable contributions to Bangladesh and the United States.” The Ambassador highlighted the increasing number of Bangladeshi students studying in the United States, with Bangladesh currently ranking 13th among the top sending countries of origin for students studying in the United States.

The Embassy also held its first-ever U.S. university fair in Chattogram on January 29, 2023, at the Radisson Blue Bay View Hotel. More than a thousand prospective students received information about studying in the United States and met the U.S. institutions.

The fair provided prospective undergraduate and graduate students, teachers, parents, and school counselors with the opportunity to meet with a delegation of 12 U.S. university admissions officials. Representatives from the following U.S. universities participated in the fair:

In addition to meeting with U.S. university representatives, visitors participated in information sessions on the U.S. higher education application process led by U.S. Embassy officials and EducationUSA advisors.

During the 2021-2022 academic year, the United States remained the top destination for international students.  Over the past decade, the number of Bangladeshi students in the United States has more than tripled, increasing from 3,314 during the 2011-2012 academic year to 10,597 during the 2021-2022 academic year.
