Modi reaffirms support for democratic BD in call with Prof. Yunus

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with Prof. Muhammad Yunus, chief adviser of Bangladesh's interim government, today. Modi reiterated India's commitment to supporting Bangladesh through development initiatives and emphasized the need to protect Hindus and other minority communities. Yunus assured Modi that the interim government would prioritize the safety and security of all minority groups.

Modi stressed India's support for a democratic, stable, and progressive Bangladesh, and both leaders discussed advancing their bilateral relationship. This call marked the first contact between Modi and Yunus since Yunus's appointment on August 8.

Modi also posted on X (formerly Twitter), expressing support for Bangladesh’s stability and the protection of minorities. India's Foreign Ministry spokesman, Randhir Jaiswal, stated that New Delhi looks forward to collaborating with Bangladesh's interim government to meet shared expectations and reiterated India’s longstanding support for Bangladesh’s progress.
