Acting Australian envoy welcomes CA’s statement on national unity

"Australia remains committed to upholding universal human rights"



Dhaka, Aug 26 - Acting Australian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Nardia Simpson on Monday said, she welcomed the recent statement by interim government Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus which reaffirmed Bangladesh’s commitment to national unity, universal human rights and zero tolerance for discrimination on the basis of religion, ethnicity and political belief.

“Australia is built on the foundation of diversity, multiculturalism, and tolerance,” said the acting Australian envoy welcoming Nirmol Rozario and Bhikkhu Sunandapriya, leaders of Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council, at the Australian High Commission.

They discussed about the hopes and concerns of religious minority groups across Bangladesh.

The acting High Commissioner said, mutual understanding between people and appreciation of diverse cultures and forms of expression are core values for Australia.

She said, Australia remains committed to upholding universal human rights and supports the fundamental role democracy plays in protecting these rights.-UNB
