US Delegation to Discuss Economy with Yunus in Dhaka
US Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs, Donald Lu, and other senior officials arrived in Dhaka on Saturday, following a visit to India. This marks the first visit by a US delegation since the interim government led by Chief Adviser Prof. Muhammad Yunus was formed on August 8.
The delegation, which includes Assistant Secretary for International Finance Brent Neiman and US Trade Representative Brandon Lynch, will engage in discussions with the Bangladeshi interim government on Sunday. Their agenda includes meetings with Yunus, Foreign Affairs Adviser Md Touhid Hossain, and Finance Adviser Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed.
The US team, also featuring US Treasury Director Jerrod Mason and Chargé d’affaires Helen LaFave, is expected to focus on supporting Bangladesh’s economic growth, financial stability, and development needs. Neiman emphasized the US's support for Bangladesh’s economic reforms and engagement with international financial institutions.
Foreign Secretary Md Jashim Uddin described the visit as significant, highlighting its multi-dimensional nature beyond a single topic. Discussions will also cover future US-Bangladesh relations and the impact of previous US visa policies on bilateral ties.
