Yunus to Meet Biden at UNGA
Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus is set to hold a pivotal bilateral meeting with US President Joe Biden on September 24 during the 79th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York.
Sources in Dhaka and New York confirmed that the meeting was finalized last Thursday, prompting Dr. Yunus to adjust his travel plans and depart for New York a day earlier, on September 23.
In addition to his meeting with Biden, Dr. Yunus is scheduled for discussions with the prime ministers of the Netherlands, Pakistan, and Nepal. Foreign Adviser Md Touhid Hossain highlighted this extensive diplomatic agenda during a press briefing on September 21.
Dr. Yunus will also engage in talks with several prominent leaders, including US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, UN Secretary-General António Guterres, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk, World Bank President Ajay Banga, and USAID Administrator Samantha Power.
However, it was noted that a bilateral meeting between Dr. Yunus and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will not take place due to overlapping schedules. This series of meetings underscores Dr. Yunus's influential role in international diplomacy during this critical assembly.
