US Imports from Bangladesh Hit $7.1B, Focus on Labor Rights

US officials have emphasized that enhancing labor rights will be central to future economic partnerships with Bangladesh. This assertion emerged during a significant meeting with the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) in Dhaka.

Discussions centered on advancing worker rights in Bangladesh's booming garment industry, which plays a critical role in the nation's economy. The US remains the largest export market for Bangladeshi garments, with imports totaling $7.1 billion last year, according to a statement from the US Embassy in Dhaka.

Moreover, US cotton exports to Bangladeshi spinning mills reached $337 million, further solidifying the economic ties between the two nations. Both countries are committed to strengthening their partnership through robust labor protections, fair trade practices, and inclusive development, as highlighted in the statement.
