The European Union (EU) has pledged to support Bangladesh in holding elections that meet international standards, offering both financial assistance and its expertise.

EU Ambassador to Bangladesh, Michael Miller, made the announcement on Sunday after a meeting with Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin in Dhaka. The EU will provide significant financial aid and share its experience to ensure the elections align with global best practices.

In addition, the EU plans to deploy an election observation mission in Bangladesh to monitor the process.

Miller emphasized two key messages: the EU remains a steadfast partner to Bangladesh during this critical transition and is committed to supporting the interim government's reform efforts to ensure the election reflects the aspirations of the people.

“We aim to reinforce our partnership with Bangladesh across all sectors,” he added.

CEC Nasir Uddin assured that the Election Commission (EC) is committed to conducting a free, fair, and credible election in a transparent manner. He also stated that the EU delegation visited to learn about the EC’s preparations for the upcoming national election.

The EU delegation inquired about the EC’s budget, to which the CEC confirmed that a proposal had already been submitted to the government. “They are ready to assist in every way possible,” Nasir Uddin concluded.
