The two leaders discussed matters of mutual interest, emphasizing the expansion of trade and cooperation between their nations. Prime Minister Amarasuriya shared insights into Sri Lanka’s efforts to recover stolen money, noting that the Sri Lankan parliament has ratified a new law to streamline the recovery process.
In response, Prof. Yunus requested Sri Lanka's support in the Bangladesh Interim Government’s efforts to retrieve billions of dollars embezzled from the country.
The meeting also touched on the July uprising, with both leaders stressing the significance of enhancing people-to-people ties. Prof. Yunus outlined the Bangladesh interim government’s reform agenda and plans to hold elections between December and June next year.
Foreign Adviser Md Touhid Hossain, SDG Coordinator Lamiya Morshed, and Foreign Secretary Jashim Uddin were also present at the meeting.
