Japan has committed $1.063 billion in financial assistance to Bangladesh, covering budget support, railway infrastructure development, and education grants, following the signing of exchange notes between the two countries on Friday.

Of the total amount, $418 million will be provided as a Development Policy Loan to support Bangladesh’s economic reforms and climate resilience efforts, said Abul Kalam Azad Majumder, Deputy Press Secretary to the Chief Adviser.

Additionally, Japan will extend $641 million to upgrade the Joydevpur-Ishwardi railway section into a dual-gauge double-track line, significantly enhancing connectivity and transport capacity. A further $4.2 million will be provided as grants to fund scholarships for Bangladeshi students.
