The Communist Party of China (CPC) has formally invited BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman to visit China at a mutually convenient time, signalling a potential deepening of political engagement between the two parties.

The invitation was extended by Li Hongzhong, a Politburo member of the CPC Central Committee and Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress, during a high-level meeting with a visiting BNP delegation led by the party’s Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir in Beijing on Monday.

The meeting took place at the Great Hall of the People, where senior CPC leaders warmly received the BNP delegation. According to Sayrul Kabir Khan, a member of the BNP’s media cell, Li Hongzhong formally invited Tarique Rahman to visit China and expressed optimism that the meeting would usher in a new phase of cooperation between the CPC and BNP.

The Chinese side also underscored the importance of continued engagement and institutional dialogue between the two political parties to strengthen ties and mutual understanding.

In response, Mirza Fakhrul appreciated China’s growing leadership role in regional and international affairs and expressed BNP’s interest in expanding multilateral cooperation. He also lauded China’s development model and its contributions to infrastructure and connectivity across Asia.

Earlier in the day, the BNP delegation visited the headquarters of China Railway Group Limited, where they were briefed on China’s transformative work in infrastructure development and global connectivity initiatives, including the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).

The visit marks a significant step toward reinforcing bilateral relations at the party level and comes at a time when both sides appear interested in enhancing political and developmental cooperation.

The BNP delegation arrived in Beijing on Sunday morning for a five-day visit at the invitation of the CPC. The team landed at Beijing Capital International Airport around 5:25 am local time.

The nine-member delegation is headed by Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and includes senior BNP leaders such as Standing Committee members Mirza Abbas, Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, and Begum Selima Rahman. Other members include Chairperson’s Advisers Zahiruddin Swapan, Ismail Zabiullah, and Professor Sukomal Barua, party media cell convener Dr Moudud Hossain Alamgir Pavel, and BNP Chairperson’s Personal Secretary ABM Abdus Sattar.

Political observers see this visit as part of BNP’s strategic outreach to international partners and a reflection of China’s willingness to engage with key political stakeholders in Bangladesh beyond the incumbent government. The outcomes of this dialogue may help shape future interactions between the CPC and BNP, particularly ahead of Bangladesh’s next national elections.
