German ambassador meets Mahfuj Alam

German Ambassador to Dhaka Ruediger Lotz today met with Information and Broadcasting Adviser Md Mahfuj Alam at his office at Secretariat here.


During the meeting, Mahfuj Alam said that the government is working towards holding the national elections in the first half of February 2026. There is no uncertainty about holding the elections within the stipulated time, he added. 

Regarding media freedom in Bangladesh, the Adviser said that there is no pressure on the media from the government. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting is not interfering with any media and the media is criticizing the government independently, he added.

During the meeting, Ambassador Ruediger Lotz expressed his interest in strengthening economic and trade relations between Bangladesh and Germany. 

The meeting also discussed expanding the opportunities for Bangladeshi students to study in various universities in Germany. 

Political and Press Officer of the German Embassy Sharnila Nuzhat Kabir was present during the meeting, reports UNB.
