The Embassy of Bangladesh in Tokyo today opened a condolence book to pay tribute to former Prime Minister and Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia following her demise.

Representatives of various foreign diplomatic missions based in Japan visited the embassy and signed the condolence book, expressing their sympathy and condolences over the passing of the veteran political leader, said an official handout.

The condolence book will remain open for signing until January 6.

In honour of Begum Khaleda Zia, an uncompromising leader of the movement for the restoration of democracy, the interim government declared a three-day state mourning from December 31 to January 2.

As part of the state mourning programme, the national flag was flown at half-mast at the Bangladesh Embassy in Tokyo throughout the mourning period, reports BSS.
