Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen today paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Tarique Rahman at the Cabinet Division in the Bangladesh Secretariat.
Chinese Ambassador Yao Wen has invited Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to visit China, conveying warm congratulations from President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Qiang on the formation of the new government.
The invitation was extended during a courtesy call on the prime minister at his office in the Cabinet Division at the Bangladesh Secretariat on Monday.
Foreign Affairs Adviser Humayun Kabir briefed journalists after the meeting, saying the ambassador’s visit was primarily to congratulate the newly elected government.
He noted that the schedule for a possible China tour was not discussed. The prime minister is currently focused on pressing domestic priorities, and any foreign visit will be considered after these tasks are addressed. The invitation from China, he added, will receive due importance at that time.
According to the adviser, Beijing has acknowledged the strong public mandate secured by the new administration through a two-thirds parliamentary majority and views the government as a key partner for continued cooperation.
Humayun Kabir described the ties between Bangladesh and China as longstanding and robust, recalling that the relationship expanded significantly during the tenure of Ziaur Rahman. Over the decades, China has emerged as one of Bangladesh’s most significant development partners, supporting major infrastructure and economic projects.
He said the current government intends to build on recent progress and further deepen cooperation in areas that advance national development and mutual interests.
Although no specific agreements or policy issues were discussed, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to elevating bilateral relations and expanding development collaboration in ways that benefit the people of both countries.
Officials characterised the meeting as a goodwill exchange reflecting the importance both governments attach to maintaining close and constructive ties.
