A passenger was killed after being struck by lightning while traveling on the roof of a train in Narsingdi.

The incident took place around 5 pm today while the Noakhali-bound Upakul Express was crossing the Ghorashal Bridge area in Narsingdi.

The deceased was Sajib Sarkar, 40, son of Shamsul Haque Sarkar of Palashtuli in Raipura upazila.

Sub-Inspector Dilip Chandra Sarkar of the Narsingdi Railway Police Outpost confirmed the information.

According to him, the Upakul Express was heading to Noakhali from Dhaka when a thunderstorm hit near Ghorashal Bridge in Palash. Sajib Sarkar, 40, who was travelling on the train roof, was struck by lightning and killed instantly.

After the train arrived at Narsingdi Railway Station, the body was brought down from the roof. Police later identified the deceased through his national identity card and mobile phone and informed his family members.

Further legal procedures will be taken following discussions with the victim's relatives at the railway police outpost, reports BSS.
