Lightning strikes kill two in Patuakhali

Two persons were killed in separate lightning strike incidents in Galachipa upazila of the district today.

The deceased were identified as Md. Riaz Hawlader, 30, and Alamgir Sardar, 45. 

The tragic incidents occurred this morning and afternoon in Amkhola Union and West Charkajal village of Galachipa upazila respectively.

The deceased, Md. Riaz Hawlader, was a resident of North Amkhola village under Amkhola Union in Galachipa upazila, while Alamgir Sardar was a resident of West Charkajal village of the same upazila.

According to police and local sources, Riaz Hawlader was working in the yard of his house at around 10:30 am on Friday when lightning struck the area, leaving him critically injured.
 
He died on the way to Patuakhali Medical College Hospital after being rescued by family members and locals.

The other deceased, Alamgir Sardar left his home at noon to offer Jumma prayers during rainfall and lightning. When the rain intensified, he went to 
bring back his cattle from a nearby field beside his house. He was struck by lightning and died on the spot while returning with the cattle, reports BSS.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Galachipa Police Station Md. Imtiaz Ahmed and Sub-
Inspector (SI) Kamal of Charkajal Police Outpost separately confirmed the two deaths caused by lightning strikes.
