Patuakhali: A fishing trawler capsized in the Bay of Bengal adjacent to Payra seaport in Patuakhali. The 10 fishermen on the trawler were rescued by two other trawlers and brought to shore safely. The accident occurred at around 7 am on August 17 (Monday) in the Hairer Char area of the Bay of Bengal. Although the fishermen were rescued, the trawler and the fishing equipment on the trawler could not be recovered.

Trawler owner Shamim Reza said that the trawler, along with 10 fishermen, left for the sea from Ashakhali in Dhulasar Union early on Monday night for fishing. The trawler sank in a sudden storm in the Hairer Char area, about 30 kilometers deep in the sea from Payra port, due to strong winds and waves. At that time, fishermen from a nearby trawler rescued 7 fishermen. 3 fishermen were missing. Around noon, another trawler rescued the 3 missing fishermen. The rescued fishermen are healthy.

Shamim Reza also said that he suffered a loss of about 20 lakh taka. However, he thanked Allah for the fishermen being able to return safely. - Gofran Palash
