Two agricultural workers lost their lives after being struck by lightning while working in a paddy field at Shibpasha village under Ajmiriganj upazila of Habiganj district on Wednesday afternoon.

The deceased have been identified as Manirul Islam, 22, and Kapil Uddin, 45, both residents of the same upazila. According to local sources, the incident occurred during a sudden thunderstorm that swept through the area as the men were engaged in harvesting paddy.

Quoting eyewitnesses, Officer-in-Charge of Ajmiriganj Police Station, Maidul Hasan, said a bolt of lightning struck the duo amid heavy rainfall, killing them instantly. Villagers nearby rushed to the scene but found both men unresponsive.

Upon receiving the news, police personnel arrived at the spot and recovered the bodies. The tragic incident has cast a pall of gloom over the village, with locals mourning the sudden and untimely deaths.

Authorities have urged farmers and outdoor workers to take extra precautions during stormy weather, particularly during the ongoing pre-monsoon season, when lightning strikes are more frequent.
