The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has issued a storm warning for nine regions, including the capital Dhaka, forecasting strong winds and thunderstorms until 1:00 AM Friday night.

According to the alert, squally winds with speeds ranging from 45 to 60 kilometres per hour may sweep through several parts of the country. As a result, the BMD has advised inland river ports in the affected areas to hoist cautionary signal number 1.

The regions under the warning include Dhaka, Jashore, Kushtia, Khulna, Barishal, Patuakhali, Noakhali, Cumilla, and Chandpur. The weather system is expected to bring temporary gusty or squally winds originating from the west or northwest, accompanied by rain or thundershowers.

In a separate bulletin valid until 9:00 AM on Saturday, the Met Office forecast rain or thundershowers across many parts of the Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram, and Sylhet divisions. Some areas may experience isolated heavy rainfall.

Residents have been urged to remain cautious as the stormy weather may disrupt travel, public gatherings, and other outdoor activities. Authorities have also been asked to take necessary precautions to minimise potential risks caused by the adverse weather.
