Discussion meeting on education for disabled held

A discussion meeting for ensuring integrated education arrangements for the disable children jointly organized by ‘Campaign for popular education’ and local NGO Racine was held here on Wednesday.
The meeting was organized to obtain opinions of different stakeholders for ensuring education for disable people as part of the global program in connection with the observance of “Global Action Week-2014” from May 4-May 10.Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Faridpur Abu Hena Morshed Zaman attended the meeting as the chief guest while it was chaired by Racine vice-president Suresh Chandra Haldar.Speakers in the meeting stressed the need for specialized education arrangements for the disable with government financial supports. The age bar should be relaxed for the challenged children during study and there should be employment oriented technical education that suit the nature of their disability, speakers said.There must be posts of skilled teacher in Primary Training Institute who will teach the physically challenged students, the speakers opined.Some speakers opined to set up separate educational institutions for the disable students.DC Morshed Zaman in his speech said that the present government is very much aware about the welfare of challenged people which has already made special allocations and has taken other beneficial measures to bring the unfortunate disables in the mainstream of the society. In the education policy of 2010, government has guaranteed equal opportunities for the physically challenged students, he said.The meeting attended by various stakeholders including a number of head masters of primary schools was addressed, among others, by BSS
