Two children die with measles-like symptoms in 24hrs

Two children died with measles-like symptoms in the 24 hours until 8:00am Tuesday, raising the country’s combined tally of confirmed and suspected measles-related deaths to 880 this year.


The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) classified both deaths as suspected measles deaths, with no laboratory-confirmed measles deaths reported during the period.

With the latest update, suspected measles deaths have risen to 782, while laboratory-confirmed measles deaths remain at 98.

A total of 872 new suspected measles cases were reported during the 24-hour period, taking the cumulative number of suspected cases nationwide to 138,184.

Meanwhile, 107 new laboratory-confirmed measles cases were recorded, bringing the total number of confirmed infections to 17,385, reports UNB.

Since March 15 this year, a total of 120,134 patients with suspected measles have been hospitalised across the country. Of them, 115,980 have recovered, according to DGHS data.
