Dengue: Death toll rises to 40 ,278 more hospitalized

Dengue claimed two more lives in the past 24 hours on Wednesday.



Dhaka, Aug 25 :  Dengue claimed two more lives in the past 24 hours raising the death toll to 40, said a report of  the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Wednesday.

Besides, a total of 278 new patients were admitted to different hospitals during the period, it said.

Among the new patients, 230 were admitted to government and private hospitals in Dhaka while the remaining 48 cases were reported from outside the division, according to DGHS.

Health authorities have been recording over 200 dengue cases per day since August 1.

Some 1,090  patients diagnosed with dengue fever are receiving treatment in the country as of Wednesday morning, according to DGHS.

Of them, 987 patients are receiving treatment at different hospitals in the capital while the remaining 103 were listed outside Dhaka.

Some 8,853  patients have been admitted to different hospitals with dengue since January.

So far, 7,721 dengue patients have been released from hospitals after recovery, according to the DGHS.

The dengue outbreak has become a cause of major concern as the country is battling the deadlier Delta variant of coronavirus with its limited health care facilities for the last few months, reports UNB.
