Dengue: one more die; 391 new cases reported in 24hrs

Health officials today said they recorded 391 fresh cases of dengue onslaughts killing at least one person in the past 24 hours with most patients reporting in health facilities in southwestern Barishal region.

"During the period, (of the 391) 128 patients were hospitalised in Barishal division" which appeared to have been the worst victim of the mosquito borne disease, a Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) statement said.

It said among the rests, 41 were hospitalised in Chattogram division, 39 in Dhaka division excluding the capital, 63 in Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) and 20 in Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) areas, 30 in Khulna division, 11 in Mymensingh division, 57 in Rajshahi division and two were in Rangpur Division.

Since the start of the dengue onslaughts Bangladesh this year witnessed so far 55 deaths while the disease inflicted 14,406, reports BSS. 

The DGHS, however, said 359 patients were discharged from different hospitals across the country after their recovery.

The dengue last year claimed 575 lives and inflicted 1,01,214 people in the country.
