One arrested for allegedly sexually abuding a 4-year old child in Kalapara

Patuakhali: Police have arrested a man named Sekandar Chowkidar (47) on charges of sexually abusing a four-year-old child in Kalapara, Patuakhali. The child's father has filed a case with Mahipur Police Station as the plaintiff in this incident.

The arrested Sekandar Chowkidar is the son of the late Motahar Ali of Anantapara area.

It is learned that the accused Sekandar Chowkidar used to visit the victim's house occasionally as he lived in the same area of Anantapara village in Latachapoli union of Mahipur police station of the upazila. On August 14, between 8 pm and 8:35 pm, he lured the four-year-old child to a canal adjacent to his ancestral house by offering him food. It is alleged that the child was sexually abused there.

After the incident, the victim's family filed a case under Section 9(1) of the Women and Children's Repression Prevention Act, 2000 at Mahipur Police Station on August 20. Then, around 8 pm on Thursday, police arrested the accused Sekandar Chowkidar.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Mahipur Police Station Md. Shamim Ahmed said, "The allegation of sexual abuse of a four-year-old child is being viewed very seriously. The arrested accused Sekandar Chowkidar was handed over to the court on Friday after the initial interrogation." - Gofran Palash
