The ill-fated infant in Kalapara was found stuffed in a bag dead.
Patuakhali: The body of 10-month-old Raiyan—who went missing while sleeping beside his father in Kalapara, Patuakhali—has been recovered by police, found stuffed inside a bag. Two days after he went missing, the infant’s body was discovered on Saturday at 12:00 PM in a canal adjacent to the home of Al-Amin, located in Ghutabacha village, Nilganj Union. The deceased, Raiyan, was the son of Rasel Khan, a resident of the same village.
According to police and local sources, Rasel Khan was sleeping in his home with his infant son, Raiyan, early last Thursday morning, while his wife, Rumana Begum, was busy with chores outside. At 6:10 AM, Rasel woke up, noticed Al-Amin—his wife’s brother-in-law—inside the house, and then went back to sleep. Shortly thereafter, the infant went missing. The family alleges that Al-Amin murdered the child, Raiyan, due to a family dispute.
Following the incident, the child’s mother, Rumana Begum, filed a case at the Kalapara Police Station on Thursday night, naming Al-Amin and 3–4 unidentified individuals as suspects. Earlier that same day, police had already taken Al-Amin into custody.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kalapara Police Station, Nazrul Islam, stated that local residents alerted the police after the stench of a decomposing body spread through the area. Police subsequently recovered the infant’s remains from the scene. Legal proceedings are underway, and the body has been sent to the morgue for an autopsy. - Gofran Palash
